I'LL RISE will
tell the stories of African-Americans over the age of 100 -stories of dignity
and hope, stories of inhumanity and brutality met with personal acts of courage,
stories of struggle and of triumph. We will experience America’s history
through the eyes of those who had to fight for the right to drink from the
same fountains, ride on the same buses, go the same schools and vote in the same
elections as their fellow Americans. They have lived through both World Wars,
the sinking of the Titanic, the Great Depression, the Jazz Age, the birth of
the Civil Right’s Movement, the life and death of Dr.
Martin Luther
King, Jr., the advent of radio, television, automobiles and
airplanes, man’s first walk on the moon, the beginning of the Information Age
and the election of America’s first black president. The film will honor the contributions
and sacrifices that have been made by African Americans. I'LL RISE will
celebrate how far we have come through the power of the human spirit and will
inspire us to continue our cry for justice and equality for all.
